Salt Lake City is Hiring for School Crossing Guard Positions

Salt Lake City is currently hiring school crossing guards to meet back-to-school demand.

Crossing guards are paid $13 per hour (one shift is one hour) and must be at least 18 years of age. A 10-year criminal background check is also required.

Salt Lake City crossing guards safely assist approximately 11,600 children daily in navigating routes to and from community schools.A variety of morning and afternoon shifts are available.

The primary duty of a school crossing guard is to help children safely cross the street at key locations throughout the Salt Lake City area. They also remind drivers of the presence of pedestrians and how to correctly share the roadways.  While actively assisting children across busy streets, crossing guards also demonstrate pedestrian safety guidelines that help children develop the skills necessary to be responsible for their own safety at all times.

“Traditionally, crossing guards have tended to be retired persons looking for a way to stay active within their community and make a little extra money. But we are seeing a number of college students and other community-minded residents join our team.” said Isaac Astill, Compliance Program Manager with the Salt Lake City Public Works Department.
