Utah Office for Victims of Crime celebrates National Crime Victims Rights Week, April 8-14

The Office for Victims of Crime helps lead communities throughout the country in their annual observances of National Crime Victims Rights Week every April by promoting victims’ rights and honoring crime victims and those who advocate on their behalf.

This year’s National Crime Victims Rights Week will be held April 8-14, and the theme- Expand the Circle. Reach All Victims- presents the opportunity to highlight the importance of providing needed services at the earliest stage of victimization.

The Utah Office for Victims of Crime (UOVC) along with its partnering agencies will observe National Crime Victims Rights Week with the following special events:

  • Crime Victims Awareness Kickoff Event with the Utah Grizzlies

    • When: Saturday, April 7th 5:00-8:00 pm

    • Where: The Maverik Center; 3200 S Decker Lane, West Valley

    • Description: Come and kick off National Crime Victims Rights Week with the Utah Grizzlies. Before the game, the ceremonial puck drop will be performed by Deserae Turner-Cache County teen that was shot in the head in February 2018. There will be a press conference before the game at 5:00.

  • Interfaith Vigil

    • When: Sunday, April 8th from 2:00-3:00 pm

    • Where: Park City Police Department Lawn; 2060 Park Ave, Park City

    • Description:  Local faith leaders along with victim advocates and police departments will gather together to show their support for crime victims.

  • Youth Art Showing

    • When: Tuesday, April 10th from 7:00-9:00 pm

    • Where: Utah Museum of Contemporary Art ; 20 W South Temple, SLC

    • Description:  Winners from the NCVRW Art Contest will be honored and their artwork will be displayed in the gallery.

  • Multicultural Night featuring: Coco

    • When: Friday, April 13th 6:00-8:30 pm

    • Where: Sorenson Unity Center; 1383 S. 900 W. SLC

    • Description:  Events will include a dance that represents the Day of the Dead and prizes for best attire, remarks by the Utah Attorney General’s Office as well as Telemundo, and a showing of the movie Coco.

  • Family Day Event

    • When: Saturday, April 14th 11:00 am – 3:00 pm

    • Where: Jordan Park; 1060 S 900 W, SLC

    • Description:  We will have an assortment of food trucks, radio station(s), the Utah Grizzlies Bear, resource tables, and activities. At 12:30 Salt Lake City Mayor Jackie Biskupski will speak to the crowd of the importance of crime victims’ rights
