I’m not much of a golfer, but last Wednesday was a great day to be on the links raising funds to support our Community Match Grant Program.
You may know that we’ve repositioned our Community Match Grant Program to enhance local economic development through education, marketing, and now Mega Site Stage One certification. In this fiscal year, we have committed $24,000 to three off-the-Wasatch Front communities for the first step of their Mega Site certification (Iron County, Millard County, Box Elder County). Our hope and expectation is that going through a thorough diligence process will allow those communities to better compete for large-scale industrial economic development projects. We appreciate our private sector supporters for amplifying the state of Utah’s financial investment in the Mega Sites Program.
The balance of the funds we raised last year are committed to 10 local economic development professional development opportunities and 10 local economic development marketing opportunities. 12 of those 20 grants have been awarded to rural partners and collectively we have some fantastic marketing materials and certifications to show for it. If there’s one thing I’ve learned from my time in statewide economic development, it’s that state and local economic development cooperation is imperative for success.
