Gov. Herbert lowers flags in honor of National Fallen Firefighters Memorial Day and Fire Prevention Week

Gov. Gary R. Herbert has ordered the lowering of the flag of the United States of America and the flag of the State of Utah on Oct., 7, 2018 in honor of National Fallen Firefighters Memorial Day and Fire Prevention Week.

The governor issued the following statement:

“On this week of national remembrance, we here in Utah are mindful of one of our own — Draper Fire Battalion Chief Matthew Burchett, who lost his life earlier this summer while fighting the Mendocino Complex Fire in Northern California. Jeanette and I have thought often of him and of his family this summer. We are grateful for all the firefighters from across the state and nation who have put themselves in harm’s way this summer to protect our communities.”

Flags will be flown at half-staff at all state facilities and public grounds from sunrise until sunset on Sun., Oct. 7, 2018 only. Individuals and businesses are encouraged to fly the flag at half-staff for the same length of time.
