Christine Durham, the former Chief Justice of the Utah Supreme Court, will be honored with Utah Foundation’s Insight Award at the Foundation’s Annual Luncheon on Wednesday. Union Pacific will also be recognized with the Civic Cornerstone Award.
Justice Durham received her law degree from Duke University. She worked in private practice in both North Carolina and Utah. She has also taught at Brigham Young University and the University of Utah. Justice Durham served for four years as judge in Utah’s 3rd Judicial District and was appointed to the state Supreme Court in 1982. She became Chief Justice in 2002 and resigned that position in 2012, continuing to serve on the court until she retired in 2017.
In addition, Utah Foundation will recognize Union Pacific with its Civic Cornerstone Award. Union Pacific’s contributions to the state of Utah go back to the driving of the Golden Spike that completed the transcontinental railroad 150 years ago. Union Pacific has supported Utah Foundation since its founding in 1945.
The awards will be presented at Utah Foundation’s Annual Luncheon at the Grand America Hotel, attended by friends and supporters of its non-partisan, non-profit research mission. The keynote speaker will be Brigham Young University professor Adam Brown, author of the new book, Utah Politics and Government: American Democracy among a Unique Electorate.
