Utah Clean Energy, one of Utah’s leading clean energy advocacy groups, is hosting its annual gala Party for Clean Power co-hosted by Ormat Technologies, Inc. and Sustainable Power Group on Wednesday, Nov. 14 at 5:30 p.m. at the Cleone Peterson Eccles Alumni House, at the University of Utah.
Famed rock-climber, Alex Honnold will be the keynote speaker who is also currently touring the nation for his documentary film in partnership with the National Geographic, “Free Solo.” The event will include over 300 of Utah’s most innovative leaders as they gather to recognize Utah’s clean energy accomplishments and look to future successes.
Honnold is one of the most recognized professional adventure rock climbers in the world and has taken on some of America’s biggest cliffs over the years in his famous “No Big Deal,” free-solo style. He has been profiled by “60 Minutes” and The New York Times, and most recently National Geographic in the film, “Free Solo.” The film captures Honnold’s hair-raising ascent of Yosemite National Park’s 3,000-foot El Capitan rock formation. It’s currently playing in select theaters and earning numerous nominations for awards like the Critics’ Choice Documentary Awards and more.
In addition to his athletic feats, Honnold is a passionate philanthropist and activist working in the intersection of social justice efforts and environmental solutions to the world’s climate problem. Alex is the founder of the Honnold Foundation, an organization dedicated to reducing environmental impact and addressing inequality by supporting solar energy initiatives worldwide.
