In honor of Martin Luther King Jr. Day, the Salt Lake Chamber has released the following statement:
“Today, we join the rest of the nation in honoring the life and legacy of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. whose courage, leadership and global vision of justice helped advance our country’s public consciousness towards equality. Ninety years after his birth and a little more than 50 years since his death, there is still work to be done,” said Derek Miller, president and CEO of the Salt Lake Chamber and Downtown Alliance. “Part of the Salt Lake Chamber’s mission is to champion community prosperity and one way we do that is by embracing diversity and inclusion in all aspects of business. A diverse community, like a diverse economy, is a strong one. As a unified statewide business community, we can honor the legacy of the great Dr. King by working together to support every member within our community and thereby strengthen the quality of life for all Utahns.”
“Martin Luther King Jr. Day gives us an opportunity to consider how we can work together to positively impact our communities,” said Steve Starks, president of the Utah Jazz and Larry H. Miller Sports & Entertainment, and chairman of the Salt Lake Chamber Board of Governors. “Today, we should be inspired to give back, lift those around us, and reflect on what Dr. King considered, ‘Life’s most persistent and urgent question: What are [we] doing for others?’”
