On Saturday, May 11th, Salt Lake City will host the annual Environment + You event at the Rose Park Community Learning Center. Environment + You is an opportunity for westside residents to learn about short- and long-term solutions to improve the environment and their health.

The event will feature activities for kids, food trucks, and a $100 Smith’s Gift Card raffle. Residents in ZIP codes 84104 and 84116 will also be eligible to receive free low-flow showerheads and can exchange traditional light-bulbs for energy efficient LEDs. Upgrading just five traditional light-bulbs to an LEDs can save a household $60 in energy costs and prevent 500 pounds of CO2 from entering the atmosphere.

In April, Salt Lake City and Utah Clean Energy officially launched Empower SLC, a program designed to provide Salt Lake City’s westside neighborhoods with the tools to reduce pollution while also saving energy and money. The City funded the program through a $200,000 grant to Utah Clean Energy.

Sponsors of Environment + You include: Empower SLC, Salt Lake City Mayor’s Office, Salt Lake City School District, Rocky Mountain Power, Dominion Energy, Utah Clean Energy, Youth Works, and University of Utah Health.
