Community picnic to demonstrate ranked choice voting

Stand Up Republic, in conjunction with the United Utah Party, is hosting a community Spring Picnic and Dessert Bar, entitled “Democracy and Dessert” to demonstrate the process of ranked choice voting.

The event will occur on Saturday, May 18, 2019, from 1:00 to 3:00 p.m. at South Jordan Riverfront Park (West) located at 11050 South Riverfront Parkway, South Jordan.

The event will highlight ranked-choice voting by featuring catered desserts and the opportunity for participants to vote on ranked choice ballots for their favorites. There will also be speakers ranging from city and state officials to national political thought leaders to discuss how to effectively implement ranked choice voting. As part of the event, Stand Up Republic will also be holding a non-perishable food drive benefiting the Utah Food Bank. People are encouraged to bring low sodium, low sugar food items to drop off at barrels that will be located at the park.

The picnic is being held in partnership with Stand Up Republic, the United Utah Party, RepresentUS – Utah, Mormon Women for Ethical Government, and Salt Lake Indivisible. Stand Up Republic was founded by Evan McMullin and Mindy Finn following the 2016 presidential election and is dedicated to defending democracy, electoral integrity, and the fundamental principles of liberty.
