Cybercriminals have found small cities and towns to be easy targets for ransomware. In fact, 45 percent of attacks on municipalities have been aimed at cities with populations under 50,000 and a quarter of all attacks on those smaller than 10,000 residents.
One reason these smaller towns make great targets is that they hold important data but often dedicate very little to implementing sophisticated – or even basic – protections.
This week, we sit down one-on-one with Mike Hussey, executive director of the Utah Dept. of Technology Services to get a better understanding of the threat and to learn more about what the state is doing to help smaller cities prevent attacks.
