Summer break is just beginning, but students across the state are already preparing for an uncertain school year ahead.
This Fall, thousands of Utah children will lack the supplies they need to return to school ready to learn – whatever the learning environment looks like. To help support these students and their families, United Way of Salt Lake (UWSL) is kicking off its 10th annual Stuff the Bus supply drive to provide more than 10,000 kids with school supplies.
And to help UWSL ensure students have the support they need to succeed, Amazon is helping kick off the event with a $25,000 donation for school supplies.
“These are unprecedented times and there are a lot of families in need. Amazon wants to do our part and help out in the community, and we’re doing that by continuing to contribute to organizations doing amazing work, like United Way of Salt Lake,” said Nathan Fetherston, General Manager of Amazon’s Salt Lake City fulfillment center. “We can’t thank them enough.”
UWSL is urging volunteers to get involved by hosting a virtual Stuff the Bus supply drive with coworkers, church groups, or through community centers. Collect online donations to help purchase the necessary supplies to stuff more than 3,000 backpacks to be distributed across Salt Lake Valley.
“The world looks drastically different right now, but one thing that hasn’t changed is our commitment to help Utah kids succeed, both in and out of the classroom,” said Bill Crim, President and CEO of United Way of Salt Lake. “Now more than ever, we need to come together to help provide students with the tools they need to learn.”
