The Wasatch Front Regional Council, in conjunction with the Utah Department of Transportation and the Utah Transit Authority, has identified hundreds of priority transportation projects totaling approximately $3.4 billion to enhance mobility, strengthen the economy, connect communities, increase access to opportunities, and improve health along the Wasatch Front. The public is now invited to provide input on the selected projects.
The public comment period on the Draft 2021-2026 Transportation Improvement Program (TIP) is now open and runs through Aug. 8, 2020. The TIP is updated annually; the TIP public comment period offers citizens an opportunity to provide input on the proposed projects via an interactive map at https://wfrc.org/TIP20212026/ or by attending one of two open houses:

Representatives will be available at both events to answer questions and take comments about the TIP projects.
The Transportation Improvement Program includes roadway, transit, bicycle and pedestrian projects identified for funding over the next six years in Salt Lake, Davis, Weber, Tooele, and Morgan counties, and the urbanized portion of Box Elder County. The projects vary greatly in scope, amount of investment, and stage of development. For example, there are new freeway interchanges on I-15 that are scheduled to begin construction in 2023 or 2024. On the other end of the spectrum are minor road widenings that include pedestrian and cyclist improvements, in communities across the region including Harrisville, West Point, and Murray, some of which are already under construction. Likewise, transit projects range from the new Ogden-Weber State University bus rapid transit line, to rail operation and maintenance programs, and funding for electric bus charging infrastructure for UTA’s emerging electric bus fleet in Weber and Salt Lake Counties.
“The myriad investments in transportation infrastructure identified in the Transportation Improvement Program will be an essential part of helping our region maintain economic stability during these uncertain times,” said Council Chair and Davis County Commissioner Bob Stevenson.
The Draft 2021-2026 TIP helps to meet current transportation needs while simultaneously addressing critical future priorities throughout the region. Projects are funded with federal, state and local resources for the next six years. Major capacity projects in the TIP are selected from Utah’s Unified Transportation Plan. Utah’s transportation agencies work together to develop Utah’s Unified Transportation Plan using extensive analysis and careful planning to identify and prioritize projects for the coming decades. The transportation system is planned and designed to consider growth, development, and quality of life goals under the broader Wasatch Choice Regional Vision.
