Maliheh Free Clinic announces new executive director during pandemic

After an extensive national search, the Maliheh Free Clinic’s Board of Directors is delighted to announce Mary Ann Lucero as the new Executive Director. Lucero has strong roots in Utah and recently moved back to the Salt Lake area after serving as the CEO of the Emergency Food Bank of Stockton and San Joaquin County in California. Prior to moving to California, she served for a number of years as the Statewide Executive Director of Prevent Child Abuse Utah.

Lucero replaces Jeanie Ashby, the Clinic’s Executive Director since 2010. “Jeanie promoted a culture of compassion and excellence, while always focusing on delivering quality care for our patients,” Board Chairman Dr. Scott Browning said. “We are grateful for her years of service and know that part of her heart will always remain with the clinic.”

“Mary Lucero’s substantial experience working with vulnerable and underserved populations, public administration, health services and organizational advancement will serve the clinic well,” said Browning. “She is a strategic thinker and a self-motivated leader with a solid work ethic and proven track record of community-based achievements.”

Dr. David Miner, Clinic Medical Director, welcomes Lucero: “She is very dynamic, extremely well qualified and fully committed to leading MFC to a prosperous future filling a critical need in our local community. She displays a genuine love for helping the underserved and is highly motivated.”

“I am extremely honored to have been chosen by the Board of Directors to lead this organization,” said Lucero. “The Maliheh Free Clinic provides a truly essential service to so many who at this time are not only vulnerable to the current health crisis, but also have no other access to these critical medical services. I am passionate about serving this population and look forward to advancing the mission of the Clinic at a time when it is most needed.”
