Romney: Final Defense Bill Limits Germany Troop Reductions

U.S. Senator Mitt Romney (R-UT) released the following statement on Friday regarding the inclusion of a provision in the final version of the National Defense Authorization Act (NDAA) aimed at preventing the withdrawal of thousands of U.S. troops from Germany. Romney previously fought to include such language during Senate consideration of the defense bill.

“Congress made the right decision by including a provision in the NDAA to prevent a significant withdrawal of American troops from Germany. At a time when we should be focused on linking arms with our allies to address threats from Russia and China, a withdrawal of our troops would be a grave error with harmful and lasting consequences. This provision signals support for our friend Germany and reflects a commitment to our mutual relationship, which is vital to our national security interests and our ability to deter foreign aggression.”

The Senate and House are expected to vote on the final NDAA as soon as next week.
