Dixie State trustees recommend removing ‘Dixie’

The board of trustees for Dixie State University voted unanimously to remove “Dixie” from DSU’s name. Their recommendation went to the Board of Higher Ed and then on to the state legislature for further action.

The difficulty with the name arises wth its connections to slavery, not only with America’s South, but also with a history of slave-holding early pioneers who were growing cotton in southwest Utah.

There is no planned timeline for the coming name change.
