Help kickoff one month of driving smarter to help improve Utah’s Air

Join the Salt Lake Chamber, UCAIR, and TravelWise on February 1st, as they kick off the 12th Annual Clear the Air Challenge. Issued by business, government, and community leaders, the Challenge is a month-long competition designed to encourage Utahns to reduce vehicle emissions by choosing alternatives to driving alone. This year, the goal is to eliminate 100,000 single-occupant trips to save 2 million miles.

Transportation emissions are responsible for nearly fifty percent of the pollutants that make up Utah’s poor air quality. By driving smarter, we can protect our health, environment, economy, and quality of life. For this reason, participants in the Clear the Air Challenge use TravelWise strategies like teleworking, trip chaining, carpooling, using public transit, and walking or riding a bike or scooter to reduce emissions and help clear the air.

Since the Challenge started in 2009, participants have made a big difference in improving Utah’s air quality. More than a million trips have been eliminated, 5,900 tons of emissions reduced, and 17 million miles—along with $7.4 million—have been saved.

Help us get the word out and make this year’s Challenge an even bigger success. The Clear the Air Challenge starts February 1.
