The Governor’s Office of Energy Development is excited to announce the hiring of its new deputy director, Matt Anderson. His first day with the office is today, April 6, 2021.
Before joining OED, Matt served as the Northern Utah Director for Sen. Mitt Romney. While there, he oversaw outreach to local businesses, nonprofits, community groups, local and state governments and federal agencies.
He also helped produce legislation, advised on policy issues and worked to tackle some of the state’s most pressing issues.
“Matt is a great addition to the Energy Team,” said Thom Carter, the Governor’s Energy Advisor and the Executive Director of OED. “He brings a breadth of experience and knowledge to the Office, and we are excited to add his perspective.
Matt was born in Bountiful and received his bachelor’s and master’s degrees from Utah State University.
After graduation, Matt directed the Sutherland Institute’s Coalition for Self-Government in the West. He worked primarily on agriculture, public lands and natural resource policy — testifying before Congress on multiple occasions and appearing in local, national and international news outlets including BBC, NPR, C-SPAN, The Hill, BuzzFeed and the Washington Examiner.
Matt is also an active member of his community. He volunteers with several conservation organizations, mentors a group of college students and actively participates in local and state politics. When not on the job, you are likely to find Matt fly-fishing and hunting in Utah’s Bear River Range.
