Utah Posts Strong Job Growth, Unemployment Remains Low

Utah job growth ranks third in the nation at 3.3 percent and unemployment remains at 3.6 percent, fourth lowest in the nation, according to new data released Friday. 

Utah’s economy ends the calendar year strong, adding new jobs each month in 2014.

“Utah's economy is the envy of the nation," said Gov. Gary R. Herbert. "Utahns continue to benefit from our commitment to low and consistent tax rates and a determination to work with the private sector to enhance quality of life for all people of our state.”

Utah’s unemployment rate is 2.2 points lower than the national rate of 5.8 percent. The state’s job growth rate is 1.3 points higher than the national rate of 2.0 percent.

Utah’s private sector job growth is tied for the third highest in the nation at 3.4 percent, trailing only North Dakota (5.9 percent) and Texas (4.3 percent) while matching Delaware (3.4 percent).
