Utah Gov. Gary R. Herbert will advance the dialogue on critical energy issues facing the west and the nation when he hosts the fourth annual Governor’s Utah Energy Development Summit May 20-21 in Salt Lake City, Utah presented by the Utah Governor’s Office of Energy Development.
“Utah’s energy sector is an important part of our state economy,” said Gov. Herbert. “The Energy Development Summit provides an important opportunity to explore partnerships and growth within the energy sector. We will also recognize businesses and individuals at the heart of Utah’s energy economy and the value they bring to the state.”
Gov. Herbert will also welcome Colorado Gov. John Hickenlooper, who will join him on a National Energy Policy Panel hosted by Jack Gerard, CEO of the American Petroleum Institute.
“I look forward to joining Governor Herbert for his Utah Energy Development Summit later this month,” said Governor Hickenlooper. “The governor and I have partnered to advance the regional energy conversation in the past through the Western Governors Association, and I look forward to continuing to work with him in addressing our states' many shared energy issues.”
This year’s Summit will feature keynote remarks by Gregory Goff, president and CEO of Tesoro Corporation and Jonathan Weisgall, vice president of legislative and regulatory affairs for Berkshire Hathaway Energy.
The summit has grown to be the largest state-hosted energy conference in the West, and is expected to attract 1,500 attendees from around the globe. Participants will include energy industry professionals, NGO representatives, government officials, scientists, academics, students and other parties, including the general public, interested in the energy sector’s economic and environmental impact. In addition to a variety of plenary keynotes and panels, the summit will feature 12 break-out sessions on a range of issues, two receptions and a trade show and exhibit area with over 100 displays.
The governor has demonstrated leadership in the area of energy policy through his efforts in Utah and his energy initiative while at the helm of the Western Governors Association in 2013. Gov. Herbert is the current chair of the Interstate Oil and Gas Compact Commission and incoming chair of the National Governors Association (NGA).
