For five decades, the Hinckley Institute has championed student and community civic engagement. The last 10 years, specifically, have been marked by explosive growth—particularly on a global level.
The Salt Lake Chamber has been a long-time supporter of the Hinckley Institute and its work to encourage Utah’s best young best minds to enter politics. Established in 1965 through the generous bequest of Robert H. Hinckley, the Hinckley Institute was one of the first of its kind in the nation. It has grown since and, as evidence of that development, now sends student interns to 212 local, national and global host offices spanning 61 countries.
The impact of the institute has been felt throughout Utah’s economy and business community and has helped to build our national brand for collaboration and problem solving.
In regards to the Hinckley Institute legacy, Lane Beattie, President and CEO of the Salt Lake Chamber states, “The Hinckley Institute has played a vital role in Utah politics and business. During my time at the Legislature, I could always count on smart and energetic Hinckley Interns. Today, the Salt Lake Chamber has many Hinckley alumni on its staff and board. Additionally, the Chamber hires a Hinckley Intern every semester to give students a unique experience promoting pro-business and pro-Utah public policies at Utah’s leading business advocacy organization.
