Utah Policy/KSL Insider Survey: Do You Believe John Swallow?

Investigators say they’ve never seen anything like the amount of data that’s gone missing from Attorney General John Swallow’s office. Our Democratic insiders and readers say they smell a cover up, while Republicans aren’t so sure.

“Serving with John in the legislature, I learned one thing, never, ever, trust him. He serves himself and his ego. He is anything but honest, totally lacks integrity.”

“People who truly have nothing to cover up don’t act the way Swallow is currently acting.”

“As an I.T. Professional of over twenty years, specializing in engineering server infrastructure, including email servers and backups, I cannot be more emphatic about this: these things don’t ‘just happen.’ The whole thing is fishier than a Charlie the Tuna family reunion. While I suppose there might be a legitimate excuse for this, I’m calling ‘horse puckey’ on the explanation they’ve offered and can no longer continue to give him the benefit of the doubt.”

“He’s John Swallow, for Pete’s sake!”

“Nixon claimed he was telling the truth. Clinton claimed he was telling the truth. The fact is just because our laws aren’t clear on punishment and the actions are not considered a crime doesn’t give an elected official the right to claim innocence.”

“Swallow is correct. He has turned over 11,000 documents and has cooperated through out. Why the continued attacks other than politics, posturing and politics.”

“Zero credibility.”

“If this were something any Democratic office holder had done, Swallow would be right along with the public in suspecting bad faith. He seems unshakable in his intent to play the victim card and ride these investigations out in hopes that ‘not technically illegal’ will be the legacy he leaves to his children.”

“No one’s record keeping is this messed up. It has to be on purpose.”

“Electronic files do not just go ‘missing.’ Especially in a State Government situation. Something nefarious happened.”

“The likelihood of this being a coincidence is near zero.”

“For those of you who believe that Swallow is telling the truth, I’ve got a bridge that I’m willing to sell you at a great price!”

“Swallow has made Utah a joke and has significantly eroded public confidence in a state legal office.”

“Blatant, bald faced lies. He’s trying to play the investigators and us as fools. The truth is not in him.”

“Not one person (22K) in state government ‘lost data’ during the transition to Google. Except the AG? Hmmmmm…”

“I have no basis for calling him a liar at this point, just as I had no basis for calling Nixon a liar when 18 minutes were missing on the Watergate tapes. Then the lab came in with pretty positive evidence it was intentionally erased. It will be interesting to see what this investigation turns up.”

“Is this a serious question, or are you asking it in some kind of hipster-dipped, sarcasm crusted, eye rolling tone?”

“I find it quite telling that all 5 of Swallow’s supporters who said the House investigative committee was a waste of money are suddenly silent.”

“This is going to drag on for years.”
