Podcast: Bernick and Schott on politics #339

Bob Bernick and Bryan Schott parse the week in Utah politics.

Sen. Orrin Hatch is in no rush to make a decision about his political future.

Lots of people are waiting for Hatch to make up his mind. Rep. Chris Stewart says he wants to run for Hatch’s seat if the seven-term Senator decides not to run. Mitt Romney is also interested in the seat.

Interior Secretary Ryan Zinke is recommending that the Bears Ears and Grand Staircase-Escalante National Monuments be reduced, but how small we won’t know for a while.

The organizers of Count My Vote are ready to launch another petition initiative to get rid of the caucus/convention system. The petition would also use a special election to fill political vacancies instead of letting the delegates pick a replacement.

A government shutdown is looming. The last time that happened, Utah paid to reopen the national parks and we’re still waiting to be reimbursed by the federal government.
