Podcast: Salt Lake Acting Company’s ‘The Cake’

The Cake

The Cake, currently being staged by the Salt Lake Acting Company, is a story about a baker (Della) who refuses to make a wedding cake for a lesbian couple, and the conflict arising from that decision.

It would be easy for such a story to slam conservatives or push an agenda, especially in our hypercharged political environment. But, it’s surprisingly balanced and respectful to both sides of the issue.

Director Justin Ivie joins Managing Editor Bryan Schott to talk about the story, the politics and the process of bringing the play to life.

The Cake by Bekah Brunsetter runs through March 10.
