Gov. Mike Pence, Donald Trump’s running mate, will have to compete with Luke Skywalker, Captain Kirk and hordes of costumed cosplayers on Thursday.
Pence will appear at Sen. Mike Lee’s “Solutions Summit” at the Vivint Smart Home Arena in downtown Salt Lake City on Thursday. That same morning, Mark Hamill (Luke Skywalker) and William Shatner (Captain Kirk) will hit the stage in the central part of that arena as part of Salt Lake Comic Con.
The Hamill and Shatner appearances were moved to the arena recently in an attempt to set the world record for attendance at this kind of pop-culture event.
The soundproofing of the room for Lee’s event will certainly be put to the test as nearly 20,000 screaming attendees are expected for the two ComicCon appearances, which will begin at 11.
Lee’s event also features some heavy hitters of the political variety. Along with Pence, former presidential candidate Carly Fiorina will also speak at the summit. However, the number of superheroes, Imperial Stormtroopers, and hobbits who come to hear Pence and Fiorina speak is expected to be far fewer.
