4th district voters give Mia Love mixed favorability ratings

Rep. Mia Love is still a very polarizing figure in her district, despite her 2016 election win by 12 points.

A new UtahPolicy.com survey shows 51% of Love’s constituents view her favorably while 43% have an unfavorable view of the 2nd term member of Congress.

Love’s 4th Congressional District is rated the 91st most Republican in the country according to the Cook Political Report Partisan Voter Index, which gives CD4 a R+13 rating, and Love’s 12-point win in November is in line with that number. But, the +8 net approval Love gets from voters there could be cause for some concern.

Younger voters are much more negative toward Love than their older counterparts.

  • 55% of millennial voters between 18 and 24 years old view Love unfavorably while just 33% have a favorable view of her.
  • Voters 25-34 years old have a slightly more negative view of Love. 47% see her unfavorably while 43% have a positive opinion.
  • Those 35-44 hold a favorable view of Love 52-42%.
  • Middle-aged voters (45-54 years old) overwhelmingly have a more positive view of the Congresswoman, 70-30%.
  • Those between 55 and 64 are split, with 49% saying they have an unfavorable view and 42% with a positive opinion.
  • 4th District voters 65 and older hold a favorable view of Love, 56-41%.

Another area of concern for Love is her standing with independent voters.

  • Republicans see her positively, with 77% holding a favorable opinion.
  • Not surprisingly, Democrats don’t like Congresswoman Love very much. Only 28% have a favorable opinion while 70% see her negatively.
  • Voters with no political affiliation overall hold an overall negative opinion of Love. 59% see her unfavorably while 30% say their opinion of her is favorable.
