Even though Rep. Chris Stewart won his 2016 election by nearly 28 points, more than a quarter of voters in the 2nd District say they either have no opinion of him or don’t know who he is.
A new UtahPolicy.com survey from Dan Jones & Associates finds Stewart with a favorable rating below 50%, which is surprising given his resounding win in November.
Stewart is viewed favorably by 45% of voters in his 2nd District, while 29% have a favorable opinion of him. That’s a net positive of +16, which is usually good news for an incumbent.
The bigger concern is the 26% who responded to our poll saying they either have no opinion of the three-term Congressman or have never heard of him. Stewart is not known for maintaining a high-profile in his district, which is reflected in the polling numbers.
Stewart is facing a challenge from Democrat Misty Snow who declared her candidacy for the 2nd District earlier this month. Snow lost to Mike Lee in the 2016 race for U.S. Senate by 41 points.
Stewart ended the most recent financial reporting period with $115,763 on hand after raising $78,150.
The Dan Jones & Associates poll was conducted March 22-29, 2017. 208 voters in Utah’s 2nd District were surveyed with a margin of error +/- 6.79%
