The re-election campaign for Rep. Mia Love announced some political heavy-hitters were joining her campaign finance committee ahead of next year, including Mitt Romney and Jon Huntsman Sr.
Love is facing a probable matchup with Salt Lake County Mayor Ben McAdams, who threw his hat in the ring for 2018 last week.
The co-chairs and members of Love’s finance committee is a veritable murderer’s row of Utah politics. Some of the big names joining Romney and Huntsman as co-chairs are:
- Zions Bank President Scott Anderson
- Overstock.com CEO Patrick Byrne
- Merit Medical founder and former GOP gubernatorial candidate Fred Lampropoulous
The committee itself includes Spencer Stokes, Kirk Jowers, Josh Romney and former Democratic legislator Frank Pignanelli.
In a press release, Love said “I am very grateful to so many men and women who have stepped forward and offered to assist my campaign and fundraising efforts for the upcoming election. I am confident that with the support of these men and women, we will have the resources necessary to promote accountability and show what we have done to improve the lives of the people in our 4th district as well as combat the expected attacks that will be coming from Democrats who do not want to see me in Congress.”
So far this cycle, Love’s campaign has spent more than its taken in, reporting more than $1.1 million in expenses to a little more than $1 million in donations, leaving her about $300,000 in the bank. Love’s campaign manager Dave Hansen says the spending this year has been focused mostly on prospecting for future fundraising.
