Even though he's been in office for more than a year, Utahns still haven't sorted out their feelings about President Donald Trump according to a new poll.
UtahPolicy.com and Dan Jones & Associates asked Utahns which of the following statements best described their feelings about President Trump:
"I love everything about him."
"I don't like him personally, but I like most of his agendas and policies."
"I don't like most of his agendas and policies, but I like him personally."
"I dislike everything about him."
They found Trump's die-hard supporters make up a small part of Utah's electorate, but at least a third are willing to support his policies even if they don't like the man personally.
Only 13% of Utahns said they love everything about President Trump.
36% said they don't like him personally, but they do agree with his policies. The same number said they dislike everything about him.
That makes some sense, given President Trump's approval rating in Utah sits at 48% in the latest UtahPolicy.com survey, which is the highest he's ever been in the Beehive State. However, his net approval in Utah still sits at negative 2-percent.
Trump as a politician, is viewed much more favorably than Trump as a person in Utah.
Mormon voters, especially those who are very active in the LDS Church, are on board with Trump's policies, even if they don't like him.
- Only 12% of "very active" Mormons say they love Trump, while nearly half say they like his agenda, but they don't like him. 1/4 of this group say they dislike everything about him.
- "Somewhat active" Mormons are more on the fence about Trump. 25% say they love everything about him, while just 14% say they like his policies but not him. 29% say they dislike everything about Trump.
- Mormons who say they are not active in the Church are more supportive of Trump's policies than they are of Trump himself. 21% say they love everything about him, while 35% say they like his policies. 29% of this group despise Trump.
54% of Republicans tell us they like Trump's agenda but dislike him. 22% of GOP voters in Utah love Trump, but 12% dislike everything about him.
No shocker at all, but Democrats hate Trump with a blinding fury. A whopping 87% tell us they dislike everything about him, while only 2% say they support his agenda but don't like him. Weirdly, 6% of Utah Democrats say they don't like Trump's policy proposals, but they do like him personally.
Independent voters are struggling to get on the Trump train. 45% say they dislike everything about him, while 30% say they agree with his agenda, but don't like him personally. Only 5% of this group say they love everything about Trump.
The Dan Jones & Associates survey polled 609 registered voters in Utah from February 9-16, 2016 with a margin of error +/-4%.
