Derek Miller named new head of the Salt Lake Chamber

Derek Miller has been named the new president and CEO of the Salt Lake Chamber.

Miller currently is the president and CEO of the World Trade Center Utah. He previously served as the chief of staff to Gov. Gary Herbert and was managing director of the Governor’s Office of Economic Development under Gov. Jon Huntsman.

Miller is replacing longtime Chamber president and CEO Lane Beattie, who is retiring after 15 years heading up the organization.

In brief comments Tuesday morning, Miller said he welcomes the opportunity to serve.

“No organization surpasses the Chamber for doing good and having an impact on Utah and public policy,” he said. “We live in a remarkable time. It’s not an accident or coincidence that great things are happening in Utah. We stick with basic, disciplined principles that help us keep Utah prosperous.”

Ron Gibson, chair of the search committee, said the committee had to choose among amazing candidates, but Derek was the right person.

Miller takes over the Chamber job officially on April 30.

Miller had expressed an interest in running for the U.S. Senate seat currently occupied by Sen. Orrin Hatch but opted not to run when Mitt Romney jumped into the race.
