On Wednesday, the Senate Intelligence Committee broke with their House counterparts by concluding that Russia interfered in the 2016 election to help Donald Trump win.
Previously, Republicans on the House Intelligence Committee determined that the U.S. intelligence community did not follow their own procedures when they concluded the Kremlin tried to help Trump win in 2016.
Rep. Chris Stewart, who sits on the House Intelligence panel, explained the difference between the two reports saying it’s impossible to know for certain whether Putin was trying to help Trump win.
“I just don’t think we can know for certain,” said Stewart appearing on CNN. “There’s only one person in the world who can actually answer that question, and that’s Vladimir Putin.”
Stewart also said he has problems with the way the Senate Intelligence Committee came to their conclusion.
“Have they been out to the CIA to look at the raw intelligence? I’m not exaggerating when I say I’ve spent literally thousands of hours at CIA headquarters looking at this one question because it’s a very important thing to know.”
