Governor appoints Michael S. Edwards to the Second District Court

Gov. Gary R. Herbert has appointed Michael Edwards as a judge for the Second District Court.

“Michael Edwards brings a tremendous breadth of understanding and experience to the bench,” Gov. Herbert said. “I am confident that he will serve with exactness and wisdom.”

Edwards has an extensive background in criminal defense and family law. For the past six years, he has run his own private practice. Prior to that, he was an attorney at Diumenti & Edwards, Inc. He has also worked as an associate attorney for Helgesen, Waterfall & Jones P.C. and on the prosecution team at the Davis County Attorney’s Office. He received his J.D. from the J. Reuben Clark Law School at Brigham Young University.

“I am deeply grateful for the opportunity to serve the people of the Second District as a district court judge,” Edwards said. I will work diligently to uphold the rule of law and treat each person who comes before me with the respect everyone deserves.”

This appointment fills the vacancy created by Judge Allphin’s retirement and is subject to confirmation by the Utah Senate.
