Sens. Mike Lee and Bernie Sanders have formed an unlikely alliance to push a bipartisan measure to will get the U.S out of the Saudi-led war in Yemen.
The two sat down with MSNBC’s Kasie Hunt on Sunday to discuss their effort to force the U.S. out of the conflict. Both men agreed the Constitution has made it clear that only Congress has the powers to authorize military action.
Lee said of his partnership with Sanders that he’s “feeling the Bern.”
“This wasn’t President Trump that got us involved in this. It’s one of our best selling points in this. This is a war that has been carried out by presidents of two parties,” said Lee. “It was not President Trump who got us involved in this initially. It was President Obama. We’ve now had two presidents of two different political parties who have had us involved as a co-equal branch. And they’ve done so without lawful authorization. It was wrong under president Obama and wrong to continue now.”
