Rep. Chris Stewart delivered a jaw-dropping defense of Donald Trump's reaction the murder of journalist Jamal Khashoggi Tuesday afternoon, suggesting that sort of thing is commonplace.
Stewart was on CNN Tuesday when he was asked about whether Saudi Arabia was responsible for murdering the U.S.-based journalist in Turkey earlier this year.
"Journalists disappear all over the country. 20 have been killed in Mexico," he said. "You don't think it happens in Turkey and China? Of course it does."
Stewart's comments came after a bi-partisan group of Senators were briefed by CIA director Gina Haspel about the killing. Many emerged from that meeting convinced that the Saudi government was responsible for Khashoggi's murder.
President Trump has waffled about whether Saudi crown prince Mohammed bin Salman was responsible despite evidence from the CIA suggesting otherwise.
