Former Rep. Mia Love joined CNN Monday morning as a newly-minted political commentator for the cable network.

UtahPolicy.com first reported in November that Love was exploring possible employment as a television political commentator.

On Monday, Love joined CNN's "New Day" program, to discuss the government shutdown, now entering a third week. She said President Trump's shutdown gambit was set to fail before it started.

"You have a president who said if he didn't get a wall he would own the shutdown," said Love. "There was no leverage. There was nothing that would set the precedent for a really good deal or compromise in Congress."

Love also said the fight over the border wall means nothing else is getting done in Congress, which is "playing ping pong with the lives of the American people."
