Rep. Rob Bishop is reportedly a top choice for the White House to be the next Interior Secretary

Bloomberg reports the Trump administration is zeroing in on Bishop and the current acting chief of the Interior Department, David Bernhardt.

On Wednesday, Bishop downplayed the possibility that he could be nominated for the post.

Bishop cast cold water on a possible nomination Wednesday. Asked if talks were stepping up with the White House over the Interior secretary position, Bishop said: “I don’t know. If it is, I am not aware of it.”

Bishop did not deny he was in the running for the job, but said of his prospects: “Don’t bet your retirement system. Keep it in the bank for now.”

While Bishop and Bernhardt are considered to be the frontrunners for the job, others said to be under consideration include Idaho Gov. Butch Otter, Former Idaho Rep. Raul Labrador, former Wisconsin Gov. Scott Walker and former Nevada Sen. Dean Heller.
