Fox News contributor and potential 2020 Utah gubernatorial candidate Jason Chaffetz ripped a New York Times report that the FBI opened an investigation into whether President Donald Trump was working on behalf of Russia as "over the top" and "desperation."
Chaffetz, speaking on Fox and Friends, said any suggestion that Trump is compromised by Russia is nonsense.
"This assertion that the president is anything but 100% pro-America is absolutely ridiculous," he said.
Chaffetz also defended Trump in light of a Washington Post report that he has gone to great lengths to conceal details of his interactions with Russian President Vladimir Putin, blaming Democrats for the negative news about Trump.
"The Democrats can’t get over the fact that Donald Trump became the president of the United States. They never saw it coming. They don’t understand it. They don’t understand a person would put America first. They just don’t get it. And so coming into that they always believed that Donald Trump was an illegitimate president and how dare he have communications. But look at the success the president has had with Russia, with Iran, with North Korea. The world is a better and safer place because of Donald Trump," said Chaffetz.
