Chaffetz on shutdown ending: ‘Savvy move by Trump’

Former Utah congressman and potential candidate for Utah Governor in 2020 Jason Chaffetz called President Trump’s move on Friday to end the government shutdown a “savvy move” that would expose the Democrats for being soft on border security.

Chaffetz said on Saturday’s Fox and Friends the ending of the shutdown was not a loss for Trump, as some in the media have said, but instead an opportunity for Trump to show that Democrats in Congress have no plan for border security.

“What are we going to be doing for the next two weeks? Talking about the difference of having a wall and not having a wall,” said Chaffetz.

Chaffetz added he has “total confidence” that President Trump will end up building his long-promised wall on the U.S.-Mexico border.

“It’s going to expose over the course of time that Nancy Pelosi and Chuch Chumer have no plan for border security, and it’s going to force their members to stop hiding,” he said.
