Former Utah Rep., and possible 2020 gubernatorial candidate said the furor surrounding a Democrat in Virginia would be “exponentially worse” if he were a supporter of President Donald Trump.
Virginia Democratic Governor Ralph Northam is facing calls for his resignation after a photo of a person in blackface standing next to another dressed as a Klan member from his medical school yearbook surfaced last week.
Chaffetz said on Fox News Sunday the negative reaction to Northam has been severe, but he believes it could be more intense.
“I do believe it would be exponentially worse for someone who supported Donald J. Trump,” he said. “I’m glad Democrats are calling out one of their own.”
Chaffetz said Northam was being “wholly selfish” by resisting calls to resign because he “can’t govern at this point.”
