Nearly 300 people attended the Salt Lake Chamber’s third annual Cybersecurity Conference at the Salt Lake Marriott Downtown at City Creek. The conference was designed to help small and mid-size businesses develop, evaluate and strengthen their cybersecurity programs.
“Cyber attacks are one of the biggest threats to Utah businesses and yet there are still too many that are either unprepared or underprepared to handle these cyber threats. In our rapidly evolving cybersecurity landscape where more sophisticated attacks are disrupting organizational operations and stealing sensitive data, every business, no matter the size or scale, needs the practical skills and foundational cybersecurity knowledge to keep their organizations, their employees and their customers’ information safe. It’s for that reason that the Salt Lake Chamber is proud to be presenting the Cybersecurity Conference for the third year in a row,” said Derek Miller, president and CEO of the Salt Lake Chamber.
Conference attendees heard from top experts from the private sector about topics such as cybersecurity and privacy law, cybersecurity maturity as well as tools to prevent, detect and respond to a cyber incident. Matt Soseman of Microsoft started the day off with our opening Keynote presentation on how to balance security and productivity in the modern workplace. Jason Callaway of Google gave the closing Keynote presentation on Google Cloud’s perspective on cybersecurity.
“2018 was a year that was a sign of the times. As we wrapped up with the Equifax breach, our economy braced for a new era, and in the first quarter of 2018, we saw more than a 30% increase in cyber attacks,” said Jared Hoskins, co-chair of the Salt Lake Chamber’s Cybersecurity Leadership Council. “It is through working together, a team effort and support for one another that we will defend our community, our businesses, our friends and family from these threats.”
