Watch: Sen. Mike Lee says Democrats are ‘dangerously out of touch’ on immigration issues

Sen. Mike Lee blasted his Democratic colleagues, saying they are “dangerously out of touch” when it comes to immigration issues and Americans will punish them at the polls for that in 2020.

Lee appeared on Fox News Thursday evening where he pushed back against Democratic objections to including a citizenship question on the 2020 census. Democrats say the question is designed to suppress minority participation in the once-a-decade count of the nation’s population.

“That is complete and utter nonsense,” said Lee. “There’s nothing wrong about the idea of collecting data on who is a citizen or who is not. It’s not going to keep people away from the census, especially since the question is not being asked. I wish it was being asked.”

President Donald Trump announced Thursday he was abandoning efforts to include the citizenship question on the 2020 census after the Supreme Court blocked the plan in June.

Lee also weighed in on the planned immigration raids set to begin on Sunday targeting about 2,000 undocumented families. Democrats in Congress have been highly critical of the planned sweep.

“I don’t understand the assumption that it is somehow bad to enforce the law. If enforcing our border is somehow a bad thing, that is a strange set of cultural dynamics at play in our country,” he said.
