Our new Utah Political Trends poll conducted for UtahPolicy.com by Y2 Analytics finds most Utahns don’t follow college or pro football, but those who do have a clear preference for the University of Utah on the college gridiron.
42% of our panel respondents who say they follow the college game say their favorite team to cheer for is the University of Utah. 31% say they are devoted followers of the BYU Cougars. Just 8% are die-hard fans of the Utah State Aggies. 19% said they prefer to cheer for another team.
The clear preference for the University of Utah over BYU is not surprising given the recent trajectory of the two programs. Last week the Utes notched their 9th straight win over BYU. The last time the Cougars defeated the Utes was 2009.
The NFL got underway Thursday evening with a matchup between the Green Bay Packers and Chicago Bears.
