Rep. Chris Stewart said Wednesday night that he had read the whistleblower report that touched off the current impeachment firestorm in Washington, and doesn’t see what the big deal is.
Stewart said on Fox News that after he read the report, he was nonplussed.
“I can tell you after reading it, I’m much more confident. It’s going to go nowhere. There are no surprises,” said Stewart.
Stewart says the entirety of the report is focused on the transcript of a phone call between President Donald Trump and the president of Ukraine. Stewart’s characterization runs counter to other media reports that claim the whistleblower report is much more wide-ranging and raises concerns about how the White House handled information of President Trump’s interactions with Ukraine.
The whistleblower complaint has been declassified and could be released as soon as Thursday morning. Stewart urged the public to read the document.
“It’s nonsense. If you think it’s dramatic, read the transcript and tell me if you think that’s dramatic. I don’t care if there’s 217 Democrats voting for impeachment. That doesn’t matter. It’s the American people that matter. Most Americans will go, ‘Where’s the crime?'”
