Utah Works Program provides workforce solutions

Utah’s Talent Ready Utah Center’s Utah Works program promotes partnerships between businesses, the Utah System of Technical Colleges and the Utah System of Higher Education.

The program focuses on filling high-demand positions and providing technical skills and training to Utah workers. By bringing industry leaders, post-secondary institutions and state agencies together, it addresses workforce gaps that companies identify.

The Utah Works program helps develop workforce solutions that meet the needs of businesses while creating jobs. It does this by supporting, expanding or creating new ventures in the state.

“Utah Works represents what that can be accomplished when state agencies and higher education institutions join forces,” says Val Hale, executive director of the Utah Governor’s Office of Economic Development.

The Talent Ready Utah Center coordinates support and provides financial incentives to create partnerships that meet industry needs. Businesses partner with educational institutions and submit applications that are approved by the Talent Ready Utah Board. Applications are accepted on an on-going basis and subject to funding availability.

“Accelerated hiring and technical skills training are the most important things we can do to build a strong economy for the future,” says Mike Henry, vice president of operations at Northrop Grumman Aerospace Structures. “Through the support of the Utah Works program, Northrop Grumman will be able to promptly hire the skilled employees required to meet the demands of aerospace manufacturing.”

Organizations involved in Talent Ready Utah span industry, education and the public sector. Partners include organizations such as the Department of Workforce Services, Salt Lake Chamber, Utah System of Higher Education, Utah System of Technical Colleges and the Utah State Board of Education, to name a few.

Some of Utah Works Program industry partners include Albany Engineered Composites, BD Medical, Boeing, Janicki Industries, JD Machine, Kihomac, Merit Medical, Northrop Grumman, PCC Structural Inc., Petersen Incorporated and Stadler Rail
