The Salt Lake Chamber announced today that Governor Mike Leavitt will serve as the keynote speaker for the 2020 Utah Economic Outlook & Public Policy Summit. Leavitt is the founder of Leavitt Partners, a healthcare intelligence business.
In previous roles, Leavitt served as secretary of the United States Department of Health and Human Services (2005-2009), administrator of the Environmental Protection Agency (2003-2005) and three-time elected governor of Utah (1993-2003). While at EPA he oversaw implementation of the most protective ground-level ozone standards in our nation’s history and signed the Clean Diesel Rule, a landmark rule to cleanup nonroad diesel fuel. His service at HHS included the implementation of the Medicare Part D Prescription Drug Program and the planning and preparation for a pandemic flu.

Additionally, Leavitt was chairman of the National Governors Association, the Republican Governors Association and Western Governors’ Association. He is a seasoned diplomat, leading U.S. delegations to more than 50 countries, conducting negotiations on matters related to health, the environment and trade.
