Democratic presidential candidate Michael Bloomberg will make a campaign stop in Utah on Saturday.

Sources with knowledge of Bloomberg’s plans say he will visit the Beehive State over the weekend to bolster his presidential campaign, which is focusing almost exclusively on the states that will cast their primary ballots on Super Tuesday in March.

Bloomberg will hold a public event at 4 pm on Saturday at Impact Hub in downtown Salt Lake City.

Bloomberg would be the fourth Democratic candidate to visit Utah during the 2020 election cycle. Sen. Elizabeth Warren campaigned in Utah last year as did former Secretary of Housing and Urban Development Julian Castro, but he has since dropped out of the race. Former Vice President Joe Biden held a fundraiser in Park City in 2019 but did not hold a public campaign event.

Utah has 35 delegates up for grabs on Super Tuesday allocated among the state’s four congressional districts as well as statewide. The Democratic presidential primary has a “viability threshold” of 15%, meaning a candidate must get at least that percentage of the vote to be eligible to score delegates. A candidate needs 1,990 delegates to win the party’s nomination on the first ballot at the national convention in Milwaukee.

Bloomberg has been spending big on advertising in Utah ahead of March’s Democratic primary. According to data from the firm Advertising Analytics, Bloomberg’s campaign has spent nearly $1.3 million on advertising in the state as of last week, but sources indicate that number is now closer to $1.5 million.
