Sunday night, Sen. Luz Escamilla, D-Salt Lake City, announced she had tested positive for the coronavirus.
“On Friday evening, after experiencing symptoms, I was tested for COVID-19. I have just been informed that my test came back positive,” said Escamilla in an email statement.
“My family and I are quarantined and taking every precaution to avoid spreading the virus. As someone who has asthma, this is a scary diagnosis, but I am confident I will make a full recovery.”
Escamilla, who ran for Salt Lake City Mayor in 2019, is the first member of the Utah Legislature to test positive for the virus.
