The money race in Utah’s 1st Congressional District is close…kinda.
Rep. Rob Bishop raised nearly $175,000 in the first quarter of this year, with $144,000 of that coming from PAC’s. Bishop’s campaign spent $154,000, leaving them with $34,000 cash on hand.
That’s less money in the war chest than Democratic challenger Donna McAleer, who has $42,857 on hand. McAleer raised Just under $80,000 last quarter, with all of it coming from individual donors.
The other Democrat in the race, Peter Clemens, actually out-raised McAleer last quarter by about $1,000, but $12,000 of that came from a personal loan to his campaign. Clemens spent $67,740, leaving him with $13,194 in the bank.
In 2012, Bishop raised $353,367 in his winning effort against McAleer, who pulled in $231,493.
Republican David Chiu and Independent American Party candidate Dwayne Vance have not yet reported any fundraising numbers.
