Mourning the death of Allyson Gamble

On Friday evening, Allyson Gamble, the executive director of the Capitol Preservation Board, passed away after unexpectedly suffering a stroke on Wednesday evening. She was 52.

Allyson served on the Capitol Preservation Board for 19 years, and as its director for the last 11 years, overseeing the day-to-day operations. She was instrumental in the 2004 remodeling and seismic retrofit of the Capitol and had a deep love for the people’s house.

Many tributes were offered on her behalf. Governor-elect Spencer Cox tweeted “She was brave and fierce and kind. Our hearts are broken and we will miss her.”

Representative Patrice Arent called her a “dear, lifelong friend” who was “kind, compassionate, patient, optimistic, hard working and brilliant. Allyson made the entire Capitol Complex what it is today.”

Reporter Ben Winslow paid tribute as well: “I am heartbroken to learn that Allyson Gamble, who was truly the heart and soul of @UTStateCapitol, has died. From parties to protests, the Capitol Preservation Board makes it happen. Allyson made it The People’s House. She will be missed.”

Her family has set up a tribute page for loved ones to contribute pictures and stories here. You can read additional stories about and tributes to Allyson on Deseret.com, the Salt Lake Tribune, KSL, Fox 13 and the Daily Herald
