Governor-elect Spencer Cox and Lt. Governor-elect Deidre Henderson have announced their plans for their inauguration. Their inauguration will take place on January 4, 2021, the 125th anniversary of Utah statehood. They will be sworn in at the outdoor Tuacahn Center for the Arts in Ivins, Utah. This will be the first inauguration ever held in rural Utah. Because of COVID-19, there will be a limited number of tickets available for socially distanced, masked-up guests ready to sit outside in January, rain, snow or shine.
Also being sworn in are Attorney General Sean Reyes, state auditor John “Frugal” Dougal and state treasurer, Dave Damschen. The inauguration will be live-streamed.
The Cox/Henderson team is also focusing on service and for the next 30 days, they are asking fellow Utahns to contribute to the Utah Food Bank. This year, as you might imagine, donations for the food bank are down and requests are up. Their #OneUtah food drive will help refill the Utah Food Bank’s resources and the more than 200 community food pantries. Additionally, donations will remain in the local communities where they are made, as neighbors help neighbors.
Spencer Cox and Deidre Henderson are asking for donations in several ways. You can donate time by spreading the word about the #OneUtah food drive, or pick up and drop off donations. You can donate money directly to the Utah Food Bank and you can donate goods directly to your local food pantry or the Utah Food Bank. Items typically in short supply include staples like diapers and toilet paper, peanut butter, canned meats, boxed meals, rice and beans and pasta.
The inauguration will also include musical performances, a 19-gun salute and a flyover by the Utah National Guard.
