A couple of tweets about COVID-19, the discriminatory past of the Hotel Utah, racism as a public health crisis, restorative justice, killing a bill that would prevent discrimination based on “natural hair,” Dixie State students highly invested in changing the name of their university while the Utah Senate sits on the bill and are you afraid of Black History Month?
Getting shots in arms saves lives
This is why @GovCox and I have been so intensely focused on this since coming into office on January 4. Shots in arms of the most vulnerable first saves lives. Thanks to all the healthcare and public health heroes who’ve been working nonstop to make this happen. #covidsucks pic.twitter.com/R47dZGzVB9

Utah’s governor is pretty optimistic about COVID-19 restrictions going away
I’m really baffled by the pessimism we keep hearing from DC. Almost all the science (including concerns about variants) is overwhelmingly positive. With vaccine numbers soaring, I truly believe that we will be celebrating maskless in large groups by the 4th (if not sooner). https://t.co/aOYDqRudjV

The Hotel Utah would not allow Black guests until the 1950’s. But Black employees could enter through the back door.
Frank Gilbert was a waiter at the Hotel Utah before WWI. Built in 1911, Hotel Utah was #SaltLakeCity's first world-class hotel. The hotel allowed Black employees, but no Black guests, until the 1950s. Closed 1987 for conversion into @Ch_JesusChrist' Joseph Smith Memorial Building pic.twitter.com/dcYO7RhRID

A bill on restorative justice passes committee
Thank you @RepAStoddard – after a teenager struck and killed my dad while cycling, we chose to engage in restorative justice and my mom and I have no regrets in working through the process that way instead of the usual criminal justice framework. https://t.co/V2vxGmrKEj

Utah’s version of the CROWN act, preventing discrimination based on natural hair and culturally-appropriate hair styles is dead in this year’s legislative session.
The bill addresses the discrimination people of color, mainly Black women, experience for choosing not to wear their hair in Eurocentric styles in school and at the workplacehttps://t.co/Wcswh1vrev

Who’s afraid of Black History month??
Teaching Black history has become a flashpoint. Three new docuseries refuse to sugarcoat their narratives https://t.co/n95hfCgstf
